Upcoming Reads
Went to the library today and have my next pile of books lined up to read. Here's the list of books I'll be reading over the next few weeks.
Currently reading: Twelve Bar Blues by Patrick Neate - the 2002 Whitbread Novel Winner. This is a book I own and I'm just a few pages in. I have a little plan where everytime I go to the library I take one of my own books off the shelf and add it to the pile. This way I make a little progress on reading books I actually own. This book was in the last library pile.
Library Haul:
The Echo Maker by Richard Powers - this is a Pulizter finalist and winner of the National Book Award. Also is the upcoming September read for the pulitzer yahoo group.
The Giver, Gathering Blue, and The Messenger by Lois Lowry. The Giver is a Newbery Award winner and I read it a long time ago. I wanted to read the rest of trilogy and decided I should re-read The Giver as well. The 2nd and 3rd books seem to get mixed reviews, people seem to either love them or hate them. Wonder which side I'll be on?
Gossamer by Lois Lowry - since I was getting the other Lowry's I decided to get this one as well which was on my tbr list.
Feed by M.T. Anderson - this one was just recently added to my tbr list.
Pure Dead Wicked by Debi Gliori - second book in a series I just started reading recently.
King of the Middle March by Kevin Crossley-Holland - final book in the Arthur trilogy.
You Suck by Christopher Moore - I've been wanting to try one of Moore's books for ages.
Big Fish by Daniel Wallace - same as above, I've wanted to read one of Wallace's books for ages.
So after I got home I went to my own shelves and pulled a book off to add to the pile. I chose: Alias Grace by Margaret Atwood - After reading and absolutley loving Blind Assassin, I'm anxious to read another by Atwood. This is also a Giller Prize winner.

I'll be curious to hear what you think of Feed - I read it a couple years ago, but it has really stayed with me (and seems creepily apropos much of the time!)
ReplyDeleteOh - and don't read You Suck until you read Bloodsucking Fiends, because it picks up right where Fiends leaves off, and it won't make much sense. If you want to read a standalone Christopher Moore, I'd highly highly recommend A Dirty Job.
I love a good library haul (too bad I bring one home with me most nights when I go home from work - and my kids expect a good haul every time, too - we're drowning in books. But what a way to go!).
Oh, thanks for that darla! I didn't know You Suck was a sequel. They did have Dirty Job, so I think I'll go back tomorrow and get that instead.
ReplyDeleteI absolutely LOVE Lois Lowry. I thought all 3 books in the trilogy were great. I want to read all her books at some point.
ReplyDeleteI LOVED The Handmaid's Tale, but just didn't care for The Blind Assassin. I guessed everything too quickly.
Ooh, I can't wait to hear what you think of A Dirty Job! It was probably my favorite book I read last year. Of course, it helps if you have a twisted sense of humor...
