I am a fan of the books, and even though I initially hated the movies I can't stop myself watching them. I see many many problems with the books (especially characters), but I honestly can't help myself. (Yes, I've already questioned my own sanity at times) I appreciate your take on the GN - I wasn't planning on reading it, and now I definitely won't... because even with the problems I could "let go" to continue enjoying the series personally - the things you've described as missing would absolutely kill it for me. I might check out the art though...
