Contest: The Line Painter by Claire Cameron

I am giving away a wonderful dark Canadian noire novel, The Line Painter by Claire Cameron, which I really enjoyed reading almost one year ago. This is a trade paperback edition.

Contest will run until Nov. 20, with the winner randomly chosen and announced on Nov. 21. This contest is open to US and Canada only. Sorry, but International postage is too expensive for me.

To enter:

1) You must be a follower (over in the right bar) and let me know you are in your comment.

2) Leave your email address (if it is not in your profile.)

3) +2 Tweet or blog about this contest and leave me the link.

4) +1 Which would you rather be: the person stranded on the highway late at night or the person offering the stranger a ride to get help?

Please try to leave all your responses in one comment.

You can read my review of the book here and see how much I enjoyed it. Here is the publisher's summary:

It's 1:08 a.m. when Carrie's car breaks down on the highway somewhere north of Lake Superior. It's dark, the road is quiet, her cell phone is down, and she is alone. She took off from Toronto that morning, running from grief over the death of her boyfriend, and unable to cope with the truth about the events that led to it. The relief Carrie feels as a truck pulls up soon turns to fear after its driver offers her a lift. Frank, her would-be rescuer, is a line painter, putting lines on the road "to stop people from being killed." But after Carrie gets in the truck, she starts to realize that this will be the road trip of her life.

Written in spare, unvarnished prose that brims with menace against the forbidding backdrop of a northern landscape, The Line Painter takes us on a riveting trip down a twisted road of memory and redemption.

  6. Hello Nicola,

my email is glinka.michelle@yahoo.com. Goto my facebook and checkout my blurb about you. Not sure what link I would send you for this but you know where to find me and it is in my status bar.
And I think I would like to be the person offering the ride assuming I would be the bad guy. Not because I really am bad but because then I would be the one in control of what could potentially be a bad/scary situation.

    Thanks, Michelle

  7. I live somewhere north of Lake Superior so this book sounds quite interesting to me.

    I follow you.

As nervous as I would be offering a ride to a stranger, I'd rather be that person than the stranded one.

+1 I would rather be the person offering the stranger a ride, as then I would at least be more in control of the situation. The person offering the stranger a ride always has the choice of whether or not to stop and can also refuse rides to the more dangerous looking folk.

  10. The cover reminds me of The Turnaround (blah!) but your review makes this one sound like a great read so I'd love to enter, thanks!

I hate the thoughts of being stranded alone on the side of a road; would much rather be in the position to offer a ride though I confess to passing by some seedy looking characters that made me to leary to stop.
